Kirk is an approved CAA Drone pilot with seven years drone flying experience. In May 2021 Kirk won a BAFTA for his drone cinematography. The film also included a 7 minute 30 second uncut shot of his in it. The early days of flying without all the flight controllers have served him well and now while flying the new state of the art drones he can just concentrate on getting the best shots. Other talented drone pilots and camera folk are also used for dual operation jobs.

Kirk has a past career as a Mountain Instructor and Polar Guide (from 6 years guiding/living in Antarctica) and he holds the MCI qualification (The highest national qualification in rock/ice climbing and mountaineering). This makes me relaxed in most environments and always happy and positive, as that was ingrained from years of being in extreme mountain or polar environments with clients relying on you being optimistic always, lol.  I am also very happy to travel for work, and in the past I have filmed in The Kingdom of Bhutan, Nepal, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Italy, Barbados, Austria, Kenya, Majorca, Channel Isles,  Australia and Antarctica.

He has also worked on King Arthur, 47 Ronin, Pokemon, Mary Queen of Scots, Outlaw King, Outlander, Bond, Starwars, Shetland and several other projects as a mountain and water safety expert while working for www.mountainandwatersafetyspecialists.co.uk

Kirk’s films have appeared in Edinburgh, Aviemore, Fort William, Dundee, and Kendal Mountain Film Festivals, Hobart Antarctic Film Festival and the 48hr Antarctic Film Festival.

Kirk has two world firsts in filmmaking. The first was being the first person to film live from Antarctica alongside Eugene Campell for ITN News.

Kirk Watson with Lawrence McGinty as they go live to 6.5million ITN News viewers from Antarctica, I think 2004

Kirk also made the first ever and only fictional feature film shot in Antarctica. It is called ‘South of Sanity’ a B Horror film or maybe C….D….E….maybe Z? Released 2012 on Halloween
