CAMERA OPERATOR
My Camera operator setup is the Sony FX6 and the Sony FX3 both full frame cameras with a selection of lenses, a gimbal, tripods, and lights.
ITV This Morning
This Morning is one of my main clients, and I’ve had the pleasure of filming with their fantastic features team across the UK and around the world — including shoots in Scotland, England, Malta, Barbados, Australia, Jamaica, Denmark, Italy, and Portugal.
I’ve worked as Director of Photography on numerous segments for the show, filming with familiar faces like Alison Hammond, Josie Gibson, Phil Vickory, Gino D’Acampo, Joanna Page, John Torode, and Rustie Lee. The studio photo above was just a quick visit to say hello — all my work is out on location, where the real stories happen.
BBC Scotland ‘Roaming in the Wild”
I was Director of Photography for two seasons of Roaming in the Wild, a prime-time series on BBC Scotland, created by Andrew O’Donnell and Mark Taylor of Beluga Lagoon Films. Andrew directed, edited, and also composed the music through his now-successful band Beluga Lagoon. He also filmed all the wildlife sequences — his background is in wildlife filmmaking, and his lenses were often bigger than mine!
We travelled all over Scotland using various forms of self-propelled transport — canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, skis, on foot, and even a pedalo. I was with them the whole time but had to shoot as if I wasn’t there, which meant carefully framing everything from static positions… unless I was flying the drone — then I had some freedom!
The series continues to be re-run on BBC iPlayer and is also available on Amazon Prime.
BBC Countryfile
I’ve worked as Director of Photography on a number of Countryfile features over the years, filming across Scotland with various presenters. My role has included camera, drone, and occasionally sound.
These stories have covered a wide range of subjects, from CalMac Ferries and Scotland’s spaceport ambitions to Ukrainian farmers, Nam the shepherd and his mountain walks, the Queen’s ponies, ice-water swimming, island life, and a young wildlife filmmaker documenting rare species.
ITV Lorraine
I’ve filmed several features for Lorraine, including a three-camera setup for a Take That interview at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, with Ross King hosting, and another with Olly Murs. These fast-paced shoots always bring an exciting level of pressure — tight schedules, minimal setup time, and everything happening just before the performers go on stage. I thrive in these high-energy environments; they’re intense, focused, and a lot of fun.
I also filmed a memorable feature for the show where Lorraine climbed the masts of the RRS Discovery in Dundee alongside Dan Snow. A unique and adventurous shoot, it was part of a wider feature about exploration and the legacy of the ship.
BBC Springwatch
I’ve filmed several pre-recorded features for Springwatch during the seasons when the show was based in Scotland. These weren’t the specialist wildlife segments — those require a unique kind of patience! — but instead presenter-led pieces in the Cairngorms and, memorably, with Iolo Williams at Alladale Estate.
One of the highlights was filming the extraordinary mating rituals of grouse (known as The Lek). Even the 1:30am starts were worth it to capture something so rare and atmospheric.
ITV Competitions
Filming with ITV Competitions has been great fun. I started out flying live drone shots in Scotland with Andy Peters, and later moved into camera work for their pre-recorded segments featuring Craig Doyle and Carol Smillie. These shoots are always fast-moving and entertaining — a great mix of energy, personality, and tight turnaround.
